The BABY CROCHET RAINBOW CARDIGAN is worked top down, starting with the collar part.

As soon as we're done making the collar, we are going to make the armholes. We will then continue with the bodice part and then crochet the arm sleeves.

To finish off we will add the 3 buttons at the top.

If you would like to download the pdf written pattern or support my work you can buy it here or send me a donation on my Ko-Fi account here :)

How to make the Crochet Bobble Rainbow Cardigan

COLLAR

START WITH WHITE COLOR
Row 0: Slip knot and 100CH
Row 1: SC in every stitch until the end of the row
Row 2: CH2 turn, *1HDC, 1HDC INCR* (repeat *...* until the end of the row) Row 3: CH2, turn, HDC into each stitch until the end of the row

CHANGE COLOR (mint green)
Row 4: CH3, turn, 4DC, *POP, 3DC* (repeat *...* until the end of the row)

CHANGE COLOR (white)
Row 5: CH2, turn, HDC into each stitch until the end of the row**

****there will be an "increase" in the rows between the bubble rows as we crochet into a space where the bubble stitch is which actually isn't a stitch

CHANGE COLOR (pink)
Row 6: CH3, turn, 2DC, *POP, 3DC* (repeat *...* until the end of the row)

CHANGE COLOR (white)
Row 7: CH2, turn, HDC into each stitch until the end of the row**

CHANGE COLOR (purple)
Row 8: CH3, turn, 4DC, *POP, 3DC* (repeat *...* until the end of the row)

CHANGE COLOR (white)
Row 9: CH2, turn, HDC into each stitch until the end of the row**
Row 10-11: CH2, turn, HDC into each stitch until the end of the row
Row 12: CH2, turn, *5HDC, 1HDC INCR* (repeat *...* until the end of the row) Row 13-24: CH2, tun, HDC into each stitch until the end of the row

Here you can try it on and check if the length reaches where the armpit should be. At row 24 I have a total of 211 HDC.

CREATE THE ARMPIT

Once you reached row 24 you are going to the stitch markers at the following stitches (30-45-61-45-30):

30

75

136

181

If you have a different amount of stitches then you can divide each of the numbers (30-45-61-45-30) by the total amount of stitches.

Row 25: CH2, turn, HDC until we reach the first stitch marker, CH2, skip all the stitches until the second stitch marker and HDC there. HDC until the third stitch marker, CH2, skip all the stitches until the fourth stitch marker and HDC there. HDC until the end of the row.

BODICE

Row 26: CH2, HDC into each stitch until you reach the armpits where we did the 2CH. Make one HDC into each CH and then simply continue with HDC until the end of the row.

Row 27: CH2, HDC into each stitch until the end of the row

You can repeat row 27 until you reach the desired length of the cardigan.I did 37 rows so I have a total of 64 rows.

BORDERS

We are going to start to make the side borders (will call it the buttons line border). We don't need to cut off the yarn but just continue from where we finished off the last row and turn our work so that we can crochet along the button line.

We are going to CH3 and then simply DC until we reach the neck part.

As soon as we reach the neck part we are going to make 4DC into the same stitch at the corner. We will continue with DC along the neck part until we reach the opposite site where we are going to do 4DC into the same stitch into that corner as well.

Finally, we are going to DC along the opposite site of the buttons line until we reach the bottom part of the cardigan.

Next, we will start making the second row of the border part: CH3, turn and alternate FP DC and BP DC until you reach the part where we have the three rows of bubble stitches in the different colors. Exactly on that high we are going to make the button holes. So one button hole at each color.

In order to make the button holes we will simply CH1, skip on e stitch and then make either a FP DC or BP DC (it depends on which one you did right before making the first button hole - it should be the same)

Then make two more, so either first FP DC and then BP DC or vice versa and then repeat again for the next 2 button holes.

Once you’ve finished making the three button holes you will simply continue to alternate FP DC and BP DC until you reach the end of the opposite side.

At the third (and last row of the buttons line border) we will simply alternate FP DC and BP DC until the end of the row.

BORDERS - PT2

We now finished the buttons line border. But we still need to make the border at the bottom. For that we will repeat the same this except from the part that we won’t be making any button holes.

Once you’re finished with the third row you can cut off the yarn and we will move over to the sleeves.

SLEEVES

Insert the yarn at the armpits (it’s less visible)

Row 1: CH2, HDC into each stitch, insert the hook at the first CH2 from the beginning of the row and make a SLST

If you are making the same size as me then this will be a total of 52 HDC (the first CH2 count as our first HDC)

Row 2-27: CH2, turn, HDC into each stitch and finish up with SLST into first CH2

Row 28: (change to mint green yarn and make sure to crochet at the front part)
CH3, 2DC, *1POP, sk-1, 3DC* (repeat *...* until the end of the row)

Row 29: (change to white yarn) CH2, turn, HDC into each stitch

Row 30: (change to pink yarn) repeat row 28

Row 31: (change to white yarn) repeat row 29

Row 32: (change to purple yarn) repeat row 28

Row 33: (change to white yarn) repeat row 29

Row 34: CH3, turn, DC into each stitch

Row 35-36: CH3, turn, alternate FP DC and BP DC

Now we finished our crochet cardigan. You can now add the buttons and hide the leftover yarn by weaving them in with the darning needle.

And here you go. The finished cardigan!
