Mini Me: Twinning Crochet Crop Top

This is the twinning crop top to the Granny Baby Dress that I’ve published recently. You can easily make different sizes by adding or removing stitches.

You can find the video tutorial of this dress on my YouTube channel here!

Have fun crocheting!

Materials:

Terms and Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain

  • sc = single crochet

  • hdc = half double crochet

  • dc = double crochet

  • slst = slip stitch

Gauge:

10cm x 10cm = _ stitches x _ rows in dc

How to make the Twinning Crochet Crop Top

We gonna start with the collar part:

  • Make a slip knot and ch 153

  • Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and sc in each st until the end of the row

  • Row 2: ch3 counts as first dc, dc in each of next 20sts, (1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next st, dc in next 32sts, (1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next st, dc in each of next 42sts, (1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next st, dc in each of next 32sts, (1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next st, dc in each of next 21sts, turn

  • Row 3: ch3 counts as first dc, dc in each of next 22sts, (1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next ch-1 sp, dc in next 34sts, (1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next ch-1 sp, dc in each of next 44sts, (1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next ch-1 sp, dc in each of next 34sts, (1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next ch-1 sp, dc in each of next 23sts, turn

Continue this type of increase pattern for the next 7 rows until we have a total of 10 rows.

After we’ve completed row 10 we need to combine the two ends of the collar. We will do so by connecting them with a slip stitch

From row 11 until row 21 we are always going to chain 3 and then still continue with the four increases at the chain spaces. At each end of the row, you’re going to always connect with a slip stitch, and don’t forget always to turn your work at the beginning of each round in order to keep a uniform pattern.

  • Row 22: ch3, dc in each next 42sts, dc in next ch-1 sp, ch4, skip next 74sts, dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in each of next 84sts, dc in next ch-1 sp, ch4, skip next 74sts, dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in each next 43sts, join with slst, ch 3 and turn

  • Row 23: ch3, turn, dc in each st until the end of the row, (dc into ch of the arm wholes),  join round by sl st (102)

You gonna continue with double crochet in in each stitch until you reach row 35

  • Row 36: ch3, turn, dc around into all sts ( make four decreases at 41st, 45th stitch on each side), join round by sl st

  • Row 37,38: make decreases over each decrease from previous row

  • Row 39: make one decrease over the two decreases from previous row

Before we start making the border we gonna change the color

  • Row 40: ch3, hdc in each dc, join round by sl st (102), turn

  • Row 41: ch3, dc in each hdc, join round by sl st (102), turn

From now on we gonna change the color for each round

So, before starting with row 42 you gonna change the color and we are going to start making the granny stitch pattern

  • Row 42: ch3, turn, dc, skip 2 st, 3xdc in the same st, repeat until you have one last st, dc, sl st

  • Row 43: (change color) ch3, turn, 3 dc into each ch-1 sp, stst

  • Row 44: repeat row 43

  • Row 45: ch3, turn, dc around into all sts, slst

  • Row 46: Ch1, turn, hdc around into all sts, slst and cut off

We are now finished with the main part of the crop top. Now all that we have left are the borders for the arms and the neck part

ARMS:

  • Hdc into each st, slst

COLLAR:

  • Ch 40-50

  • slst in 2nd ch from the hook and slst until your reach the neckline

  • sc around the collar part

  • ch 40-50

  • slst in 2nd ch from the hook and slst until your reach the neckline, stst and cut off

Now we finished this twinning crochet crop top. The only thing left is the leftover yarns.

You can hide them by simply weaving them in with the darning needle.

And here you go. The finished dress!
